Cancellation
Federal regulations allow partial or total cancellation of a Perkins Loan for
work service in certain professions, death, and disability.

Work Service - 100% cancellation at 15% per year until cancelled |
Head Start |
- full time
- certified program
- public school system
|

Volunteer - ACTION and Peace Corps |
- up to 70% cancellation
- not eligible if receiving a stipend
|
Military |
- up to 50% cancellation
- only available to personnel serving in an area of hostilities or an area of imminent danger that qualifies for special pay under Section 310 of title 37 of the U.S. Code

- requires certified copy of death certificate

- Requires Physician's Affidavit
- Requires University Approval
- Cancellation is conditional pending 3 years monitoring by the Federal Department of Education
